Reno is a city in Northern Nevada. It’s located about 80 miles from Lake Tahoe, and it has been nicknamed the “City of Sparks.” Reno was founded in 1868 and became a municipality in 1909. It grew rapidly as a result of its location near the railroad tracks and as a result of being the most direct route between Gold Rush towns in California and the mining camps in Nevada. The city has since grown to have a population of more than 200,000 people and there are plenty of things to do in Reno, including shopping at local boutiques and galleries, dining out at some of the city’s famous restaurants, visiting one of the many museums or zoos, or taking a walk along the Truckee River.
